Main Activities / Responsibilities :
1. Earthquake risk, vulnerability and capacity assessment conducted in the project areas, especially from gender and poverty perspective, to support the government and communities
- Assessment of program municipalities in terms of Earthquake Risk and vulnerability and Prepare Municipal Profile and report on “Impact of Settlement pattern, land use practice and option in high risk areas of five program municipalities
- Preparation of Seismic Vulnerability Evaluation Guideline for Private and Public Building (For pre disaster vulnerability and post disaster damage assessment)
2. Assessment of Building permit process conducted in five municipalities to support the implementation of building code
- Update and review existing government and municipal policies on earthquake risk reduction, preparedness and response and prepare report
- Suggestion/recommendation for upgrading of existing building bye laws at municipalities based on Review Report
- Preparation of Recommendation report for update of Nepal National Building Code
3. Capacities of government institutions and communities living in high risk areas enhanced to adapt and implement earthquake preparedness planning and safe construction practice using appropriate earthquake resistant construction guidelines
- Preparation of IEC Material- Broachers, Pamphlets, T-shirts, Video Documentary etc
- Training on Structural Analysis and Earthquake Resistance Design of Buildings using SAP 2000
- Mason Trainings on earthquake safe construction of Buildings, organized in five program municipalities
- Nepal National Building Code Training for project municipalities, DUDBC etc
- Sensitized program earthquake Risk Reduction organized in five program municipalities
- Training on earthquake resistant construction for institutional professionals from the project municipalities, DUDBC and local consultants/designers.
- Training program on Building Vulnerability Assessment and Retrofitting in 5 program municipalities.
- Trainings program on Damage Assessment, Vulnerability Assessment, Retrofitting Design and Construction Techniques.
- Training/Orientation on land use planning from the perspective of earthquake risk reduction and recovery preparedness for the municipal officials and political representatives at the municipality level.
4. Capacity of the government strengthened in disaster recovery preparedness to support enhanced recovery operations in post disaster situations
- Meeting / Workshop with the different stakeholders working on disaster recovery preparedness sector.
- Development of recovery principles and guidelines.
5. Communities are made aware of seismic safe construction through demonstration with demonstrative construction of new and strengthening of existing building stock
- Selection, design and cost estimation of 1 public buildings in 5 municipalities
- Seismic Vulnerable Assessments of 5 demonstrative public building in 5 municipalities
- Retrofitting / construction of one demonstrative public building in 5 municipalities

(iv) Involved in the HMG Ministry of Housing and Physical Planning, Department of Buildings, NATIONAL BUILDING CODE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDP\UNCHS (Habitat) Nep\088\054\21.03 under this department which deals with :
a) Seismic Hazard Mapping & Risk Assessment of Nepal.
b) Preparation of Nepal National Building Code
- Development of Alternative Building Materials and Technologies.
- Involved in Building Materials Research and Govt. Buildings Record Project under this Department.
- Involved as Government Technical Counterpart in the "The JICA Study on Earthquake Disaster Mitigation in Kathmandu Valley Project"2001-2002, Kingdom of Nepal undertaken by Ministry of Home Affairs and the JICA Study Team.
